In January, I’m entering a new realm with my stories: an epic fantasy series targeted to the mainstream market, written under my pen name, Thomas Locke.
Hot off the press, here’s the video trailer for Emissary, book 1 in the Legends of the Realm series:

Have you ever wondered what goes into the production of a video book trailer?
In this Q&A at the River North Fiction blog, Michele Forrider, Audience Development Manager at River North Fiction, takes us behind the scenes of the trailer for my upcoming novel, The Turning.
She reflects on the fun aspects of shooting the video, the challenges they faced (particularly with weather and lighting), and how they “aged” one of the actors. Fascinating stuff!
Here is the trailer:
There are certain elements of listening to God that follow a pattern, unbroken from the Old Testament prophets through the early church fathers, right up to the contemporary teachers. All of them say that, in truth, God is speaking all the time.
The story, The Turning, is based around the idea of five very different characters who come together unexpectedly after having studied a series of lessons that have taught them the discipline of listening to God. And to their surprise, God answers. They’re brought face-to-face with an invitation from The Divine. They’re invited to do things they can succeed at only if they rely on God’s help.
We are calling this “devotional fiction” because we are starting with the idea of applying a lesson plan to the story. If, as a result of the story, readers are interested in learning the discipline of listening, they can explore two options:
- A 40-day lesson plan will be available at TheTurningBook.com.
- Radio lessons and podcasts will be available at the website. (Watch my Facebook page and blog for more information about when the lessons will be available).
Learning the discipline of listening is, in effect, creating a space in your life where God has the ability to communicate in the way that He chooses. What we are seeking is not words from God, but that God dwells more intensely in our walk.
Here is a video in which I talk about The Turning (releases April 1, 2014):
Anticipation is building for the July 3 release of Hidden in Dreams, a contemporary suspense in which people from all over the world who have no connection with one another keep having the exact same dreams.
Several world-renowned clinical psychologists attempt to determine the dreams’ source, how the dreams should be interpreted, and whether the world should be warned about the dreams. The story brings together several key people who are in the business of healing — through medication, through psychology, and through faith.
Join me and my protagonist, Dr. Elena Burroughs (who returns from Book of Dreams) as we explore what’s hidden behind the veil of measurable reality.
Let me know what you think of the book trailer:

I’m also excited to share the book trailer for my upcoming book, Rare Earth, produced by Bethany House:
As always, thanks for checking in.
Thanks for the sneak peek into the world of film. You also gave us a picture of the person you are and how you are guided by God. I work at a bookstore and love recommending your books to customers especially ones who have never read your books. I have compared you to Francine Rivers another favorite author. Loved the collaboration with Janette Oke!!! Keep on writing and growing in Jesus!
As an emerging writer, I found it fascinating to learn about the process of script writing. To have the actors themselves talk to you about the characters must have been like having a character in a novel develop beyond what you expected. It’s happened to me, as I’m sure it’s happened to you, but then to have that character displayed in a person who is telling you these things must have been amazing and surreal.
Am so looking forward to this movie when it is out. Your books are so well received in the library where I am the purchaser and I know that there will be a lot of interest in this movie. I am also anxiously awaiting your next novel…love your writing!!
Thanks so much for sharing this report with your subscribers. This is just awesome! I’m not over remembering all details of recent LION OF BABYLON and so looking forward to the new novel, RARE EARTH… However, I see what you mean about “using new tools” and it’s so interesting how God can use an author to write or even ‘embed’ spiritual data/points in novels and I suppose at times the writer might not even know he did that, but by the Spirit was it so subtlety accomplished….
I am amazed at how God uses us in new and different ways if we are just willing and obedient! God bless you richly – I’ll be waiting to see this one.
There have been some amazing comments on my website and emails regarding the latest blog post on my recent filmwork for Unlimited. Thank you so much, for the wonderful and encouraging comments. As I work to develop the novel from the screenplay—the first time I have ever worked in this order, these very warm and heartfelt comments have been a great boost.
Thank you again for writing.
The day before 9-11, Isabella and I were scheduled to check into the Millenium Hotel at the World Trade Center. This hotel was totally demolished when the first tower collapsed. But just before leaving England, we learned that the hotel had lost our reservations, and we ended up staying 30 blocks north, well inside the safety zone.
When the first plane hit the twin towers, I was interviewing a New York City police chief. As I watched the cops roar off, sirens flashing and people screaming in their wake, my world was forever changed.
In this 4-minute video, filmed in Malmesbury, England, I reflect on my own involvement with the Arab world, which began when I was 25 years old. I hope that the video will give you a better understanding of my motives for writing Lion of Babylon, and my passion for faith-based peace initiatives.

Angela Walker of ChristianCinema.com reported that my new screenplay, Unlimited, has been completed.
“Bunn’s tightly plotted and fast-paced stories with very believable and sympathetic characters should translate well into the medium of film.”
About the movie:
When Simon, an underachieving doctoral student, travels to India to find his professor and obtain his grade for his dissertation, he is thrown into a world of intrigue and discovery as the search for a source of unlimited free power is pursued by competing interests.
The story of UNLIMITED is one of paradox: of squalor and luxury, of resentment and compassion, of corruption and generosity, of exploitation and empowerment, of giving up one’s life to save it. At its core, UNLIMITED draws a contrast between earthly energy, which is scarce and costly, and divine grace, which is infinite and freely-given. Which power will we tap into?
